Even if the "essential" Vauban worked towards making the square invulnerable, he was not the only one, giving this fortified town with its ochre walls a very particular appearance.

In the flat lands of Flanders, 9km from the Dunkirk and Malo-les- Bains beaches, Bergues is just waiting for your visit…

Still completely encircled by ramparts, whether medieval or designed by the great military engineer Vauban, the town is nestled at the foot of the bell tower. On the hill overlooking the town, the ruins of an ancient Benedictine abbey seem to be keeping guard, whilst the Mont de Piété Museum reveals some of its rich collections against a splendid backdrop of yellow bricks…
